Work hard and be clear with the basics to succeed in chess.

A young chess player studying at St. Anthony’s Senior Secondary School, Anirudha was introduced to the game by his grandfather. He has achieved various titles and ratings in chess, and has learned from several gurus. He advises new chess aspirants to work hard and master the basics.

The Initiation

Anirudha says that initially he was not interested in playing chess but his grandfather pushed him to play chess. However, gradually he started developing interest in the game and has been playing chess since then.

Gurus & Role Models

Anirudha says that there have been a few gurus in his life who have made him achieve whatever he has achieved till date. Naming a few, he says Vikas Sahu, Rajendra Sir, Gayatri Kataria are his gurus in Chess. Furthermore, his grandfather motivated him to play chess. He is learning chess at The Chess Man Club. Anirudha says that Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen, the big grandmasters in chess, are his role models because they are very great players.

The Talent

Explaining the main features of chess, Anirudha says that it sharpens your brain and improves your memory. The game has various levels i.e., Master First Rating, FIDE Master, International Master, and the Grandmaster.

Achievements

Anirudha has received a three format rating. He is also a state champion, Under-17 champion, and CBSE champion.

A Bit More

Anirudha explains that on the chess board, the Knight moves two and a half squares, the Queen moves any number of squares, the King moves one square, the Rook moves horizontally and vertically, the Bishop moves diagonally, and the Pawn moves straight. Advising the new chess aspirants, Anirudha says that if you desire to succeed in chess, you need to work hard and be clear with the basics. “When you take anything seriously, you have to work hard for that” is his favorite quote.
