A class 12 student at Kendriya Vidyalaya AMC, Lucknow, Ankush Chaurasiya has been practicing yoga for six years. Starting in class 6, he quickly excelled and has won numerous accolades, including gold and silver medals at the KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) Nationals. Balancing his studies with yoga takes hard work and discipline, but Ankush manages it all. He aspires to inspire others and firmly believes that yoga offers a wealth of benefits.
In class 6, when teachers at Kendriya Vidyalaya AMC, Lucknow, once asked students if they wanted to join a regional yoga competition, Ankush found himself unfamiliar with yoga. However, he saw that his classmates were very enthusiastic about the competition. Seeing them all join the competition, he decided to join it too. Little did he know at that time that this decision would start a lasting passion for yoga.
For Ankush, the guidance from his yoga teacher, Vivek, has been invaluable because he was the teacher who taught him the basics of yoga. Ankush wishes to become a role model himself, encouraging younger students to pursue yoga with passion and commitment.
For six years, Ankush has been dedicated to yoga, learning primarily from his school’s yoga teacher. He also finds inspiration by watching other competitors. Despite the challenges, he practices daily and manages to balance his yoga routine with his academic responsibilities, demonstrating remarkable discipline and dedication.
Ankush's yoga path is marked by significant achievements. After becoming a part of the KVS regional competition in class 6, he went on to compete in the KVS Nationals in class 7. The Covid lockdown period during class 8 and 9 provided him with more time to practice. By tenth class, he was back on the national stage at the KVS Nationals, showing off all his hard work. His dedication really paid off in 11th class when he won a gold medal in the individual category at the KVS Nationals, along with a silver medal for team events. Now in class 12, he continues to prepare for upcoming competitions with the same zeal.
According to Ankush, yoga offers numerous benefits, from improving health to developing leadership skills. He has also earned respect among his peers and juniors, who look up to him. He advises starting yoga at a young age when the body is more flexible. Also, students in Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya have opportunities to start with competitions at school level, while others can join open competitions to reach national levels. The quote “No pain, no gain” is a source of motivation for him, reminding him that hard work is essential for success. His message to aspiring yoga practitioners is to start early and be consistent. Although yoga asanas are challenging, mastering them brings immense happiness, says Ankush.
