Born into a family of martial artists, young karate artist Chaitanya Haldar began practising karate at a very early age. His dedication and exceptional talent earned him a Black Belt at a young age, followed by a Nidan (Second Degree Black Belt), marking significant milestones in his martial arts path. Originally from Mathura, Chaitanya is currently a Class 7 student pursuing his education in Kota, where his family relocated due to his parents' work commitments. Despite his young age, he has made an impressive mark on both national and international platforms by winning numerous medals and championships. With unwavering determination and passion for the sport, Chaitanya continues to strive for greater achievements and has a bright future ahead in the world of martial arts.

The Initiation

Young Athlete Chaitanya Haldar shares that he has been practising martial arts since the age of three. As both of his parents are martial arts coaches, they introduced him to karate at a very young age, giving him an opportunity to learn its fundamentals and techniques under professional guidance. Growing up in a martial arts environment inspired Chaitanya to follow in his parents' footsteps and pursue the sport with dedication. At his karate classes, he trained in both kata and kumite, developing a strong foundation in the discipline. He continues to hone his skills at Shihan's Martial Art and Fitness School, Kota, where he trains regularly to improve his performance and prepare for competitions.

Gurus & Role Models

Youngstar Chaitanya considers his parents to be his greatest role models. Their dedication, discipline, hard work, and unwavering support inspire him to practise consistently and strive for excellence in every competition. Growing up under their guidance has instilled in him the values of perseverance, commitment, and humility. Apart from his parents, Chaitanya also looks up to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as an inspiration. Bose's courage, patriotism, and fearless leadership motivate him to face every challenge with confidence, determination, and a never-give-up attitude, both on and off the mat.

The Talent

Speaking about karate, Chaitanya Haldar explains that the sport is divided into two main disciplines—kata and kumite. He shares that kumite involves sparring between two participants wearing protective gear such as shin guards and gloves, whereas kata focuses on performing a sequence of techniques that reflect self-defence skills, precision, and discipline. According to Chaitanya, practising karate not only enhances his sporting abilities but also helps him perform better academically by improving his concentration and focus. He believes that martial arts build physical strength, boost self-confidence, and help keep the mind calm and relaxed.

Achievements

Talking about his achievements, Chaitanya happily shares that he has won several medals at national championships and has also represented the country on international platforms. He earned his black belt at the young age of six. Four years later, he achieved his Nidan (Second Degree Black Belt). For the past four years, he has consistently won gold medals in both national and international championships. He has travelled to Delhi and Dehradun to participate in national competitions and has also competed in International tournaments held in Delhi.

A Bit More

Before stepping onto the mat, young karate champion Chaitanya finds strength and motivation by reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, which helps him stay calm, focused, and confident during competitions. He also lives by the quote, "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better”, believing that every setback is an opportunity to learn and improve. Chaitanya believes that discipline, focus, dedication, and self-confidence are the qualities that define a true sportsperson. He encourages everyone to take up sports, as they promote both physical fitness and mental well-being while shaping a stronger and more disciplined personality. According to him, sports and academics should go hand in hand, as participating in games not only keeps the body healthy but also enhances concentration, confidence, and overall personality development, helping students succeed in every aspect of life.
