An international yoga player from Chennai, Geethiga has been practicing yoga since childhood and has completed sixteen years in this field. Currently she is doing Bachelors in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences from the Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College. She is enrolled in the Aayush department to learn Indian Medicine as well. She has won several yoga competitions and participated in national and international contests. She believes yoga is a union of body, mind, and soul, and that anyone can practice it.

The Initiation

Geethiga began doing yoga when she was in first grade at the age of six when her school teacher approached her as a volunteer for yogasana at the Annual day function of her school. Initially, she started practicing yoga for physical fitness, but as time went on, she discovered that it also cured her of allergies and other internal problems.

Gurus & Role Models

Geethiga looks up to her father as a role model and finds inspiration in him for the yoga field. She admires her parents' encouragement since they never stopped pushing her to compete, even when she didn't succeed in the beginning. She has been doing yoga on her own for the last year, although at the beginning, her PT instructor taught her the postures at school. After that, she trained for seven years at another institution. Later, after graduating from college, she moved to a different yoga coaching center. Geethiga claims she doesn't have a particular role model and instead draws inspiration from everyone, even her competitors. In addition, she thinks highly of herself since she examines herself when she makes mistakes.

The Talent

There is an old proverb that states that yoga unites the body, mind, and spirit, according to Geethiga. Yoga was performed in the past by people to improve their mental health and reach a higher state of consciousness. Physical yoga is only a minor portion of ancient yoga, according to Lord Patanjali. Aerial yoga, water yoga, and vinyasa yoga are among the contemporary styles of yoga that have emerged. Yoga helps prevent ligament and bone problems and increases your body's flexibility. She claims that since yoga is a physical and spiritual practice, anyone can perform it.

Achievements

Geethiga traveled to Thailand while in the seventh grade and placed second in an international yogasana competition. She recently competed in the 37th National Games in Goa and earned a bronze medal in the 36th National Games in Gujarat as well. She won a gold in her individual events in her school's CBSE Nationals in the tenth and eleventh grades. She also enjoys volleyball and took part in the CBSE cluster games.

A Bit More

According to Geethiga, the majority of people are unaware of yoga and believe it is only a kind of mind relaxation. Like rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, yoga is a discipline that demands a lot of effort, physical strength, mental confidence, and self-worth. She finds inspiration and motivation in the saying, "Consistency is more important than perfection." She thinks her consistency has helped her reach this level in yoga and will help her advance in the future. According to her, success comes from perseverance and hard work, especially in the face of setbacks. Perfection does not define a person. She tells the kids that since they are all different, there's no need to compare yourself to others. God made each person uniquely, just like our fingers. Don’t just stick with the negativity, believe in yourself and do everything with love and passion, you will definitely get success. According to her, most women give up on their passions because of menstruation, academics and parental pressures. This also keeps women inside their own social circles. Geethiga advises that don't limit yourself because of the limits society imposes on you. Have confidence in yourself and believe that you are doing the right thing by pursuing your passion, and you will undoubtedly accomplish your goals in the end.
