At just 14 years of age, Youngstar Gehnaa Singh chose to learn martial arts and dedicate herself to the discipline, hard work, and perseverance it requires. She enjoys practicing techniques and moves, experimenting with tricks, and having fun while mastering the art of discipline. A budding martial artist, she is steadily making her mark through her powerful kicks and skills.

The Initiation

Karate Player Gehnaa Singh started learning karate along with self-defence at the age of 12. To provide her with professional training, her parents enrolled her at the Indian Martial Art and Self Defence Academy, Mahalaxmi Nagar, Indore, in 2024. In karate, she began by learning techniques such as kata (forms/attack techniques) and kumite (sparring/fighting). During her self-defence training, she also learned about soft target points for protection and safety. Gehnaa receives training under the guidance of Diljeet Kaur Ma’am and Vansh Sir, who teach her the fundamentals of punches and kicks while also helping her participate in matches to gain insight into the real game. The young fighter aspires to continue learning and growing under their mentorship.

Gurus & Role Models

During a further conversation, Kohai Gehnaa Singh shared that her role model is Supriya Jatav, an international karate player who has won 22 gold medals in international karate championships. Gehnaa aspires to become a player like her one day. For the young champion, her role model serves as a great source of motivation and inspires her to understand the importance of discipline at such a young age.

The Talent

Through regular martial arts practice and on-ground training, young fighter Gehnaa has gained both physical and mental clarity. She believes that sports like martial arts have helped her become more self-confident, outspoken, and expressive. Youngstar Gehnaa Singh also believes that self-defence is a skill- and technique-based practice that any girl can learn, even without a martial arts background, for her safety and protection. Furthermore, she believes that with the right martial arts techniques, any girl can defend herself and even counterattack against a physically stronger opponent.

A Bit More

A quote that inspires young Gehnaa Singh the most is: “Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” She further explains this by saying: “If you give up, you will never succeed. That is why you should always practice, believe in yourself, work hard, and stay disciplined. You always have the opportunity to learn martial arts near your place and become a young star like me.”
