Kanishka Chouhan is a young and talented dancer who has been learning Kathak from a very early age. Kanishka is an 8-year-old student of Class III and studies at Miranda Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and love for Kathak reflect a promising future in the field of classical dance.

The Initiation

Kanishka Chouhan developed her passion for dance at a very young age by keenly observing performances on television. Fascinated by the graceful hand movements and rhythmic footwork, she would often imitate the dancers she watched on screen. When her mother noticed her interest, Kanishka insisted on joining dance classes, after which she was enrolled in the classical Indian dance form of Kathak. She is learning Kathak from the Jaipur Gharana, a style known for its high energy, powerful footwork, and expressive storytelling that beautifully blends both Veer Ras and Bhakti Ras. Kanishka is now pursuing professional training under the guidance of Shruti The School of Music.

Gurus & Role Models

Kathak Dancer Kanishka Chouhan considers Pt. Narendra Sir to be her mentor and guiding force. From her initial steps and dangling feet to producing rhythmic footwork that resonates like claps, her journey in Kathak has been shaped under his constant guidance. Pt. Narendra Sir has always patiently corrected her movements in subtle yet effective ways, helping her strengthen the basics of Kathak. When it comes to performing, Kanishka shines with powerful Tandav elements, lightning-fast spins (chakkars), and intricate, energetic footwork. Under the mentorship of the Shruti School of Music, she has been able to pursue the art of Kathak with great passion, dedication, and hard work.

The Talent

As the dance form requires immense dedication and energy, Kathak—especially the Jaipur Gharana—is regarded as one of the prominent classical dance traditions that originated in the royal courts of Rajasthan. Kanishka Chouhan has developed a firm control over her body movements and expressions, which is reflected in the confidence with which she performs before an audience. Over time, she has nurtured the art of storytelling through dance, beautifully expressing emotions not only through her movements but also through her graceful eye expressions. Dance has not only helped Kanishka Chouhan excel in curricular and co-curricular activities, but it has also contributed positively to her academic growth. The discipline and concentration developed through Kathak have improved her focus, memory, and ability to learn subjects more effectively.

A Bit More

Youngstar Kanishka Chouhan has been tirelessly rushing to her evening Kathak classes after school without missing a single session. Her dedication towards dance reflects her deep passion and commitment to the art form. She loves practicing spins, footwork, and dance movements, expressing herself not only through her body but also through her eyes and facial expressions. With the energy of a powerhouse and the innocence of a dreamer, Kanishka aspires to become a fine Kathak dancer one day. Her enthusiasm, discipline, and love for dance continue to shape her journey towards excellence in the classical art form.
