A young chess player, Mrahnay Chouhan, is passionate about the game and has represented his school at state-level tournaments. Inspired by legends like Bobby Fischer, he is now focusing on Rapid Chess and aims to build his rating with dedication and strategic play.

The Initiation

Mrahnay Chouhan is a 12-year-old chess enthusiast currently studying in Grade 8 at Delhi Public School, Udaipur. He began his chess journey two and a half years ago in Mumbai, learning the basics from a local mentor who visited his home. As his interest grew, he participated in multiple tournaments in Mumbai. After shifting to Udaipur a year ago, he joined Chess in Lakecity under the guidance of coach Vikas Sahu, who has been instrumental in shaping his game by introducing him to advanced concepts and openings.

Gurus & Role Models

Under coach Vikas Sahu, Mrahnay has learned openings, attacking and defensive techniques, as well as middle-game and end-game strategies. He is inspired by Bobby Fischer’s aggressive playstyle and sees himself as a player similar to Gukesh D., particularly skilled in rapid formats.

The Talent

Mrahnay enjoys chess as it sharpens his mind and believes it’s a global sport. He finds joy in understanding strategies and maintaining strong positions on the board.

Achievements

He ranked among the Top Eight out of 80 participants in a Mumbai tournament and represented his school at a CBSE State Level Tournament hosted by MDS School, Udaipur.

A Bit More

Currently focused on earning a Rapid Chess Rating, Mrahnay finds motivation in Mikhail Tal’s quote: “There are two types of sacrifices: correct ones, and mine.” He believes chess not only enhances cognitive skills but also improves decision-making in real life, and encourages more people to take up the game.
