With a strong passion for martial arts, Narayani Phadke began her professional Karate path at the age of 15 under the banner of the Indian Martial Art and Self Defence Academy, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. A Class 12 student at Choithram School North Campus, Indore, Narayani is a dedicated Karate practitioner who continuously strives for excellence both on and off the mat.

The Initiation

Narayani’s introduction to Karate began when her mother enrolled her in Karate classes. Shortly after completing Class 9, she joined the Indian Martial Art and Self Defence Academy, Indore, and started her training under the guidance of Diljeet Kour Ma’am. What began as a new learning experience soon developed into a deep passion for martial arts and self-improvement.

Gurus & Role Models

Speaking about the people who have influenced her the most, Narayani considers Diljeet Kour Ma’am not only her mentor but also one of her greatest role models. Throughout her Karate, Diljeet Ma’am has continuously encouraged her to step beyond her comfort zone, believe in her abilities, and strive for constant improvement. Narayani shares that her mentor helped her identify her strengths and guided her in understanding which aspect of Karate—Kihon, Kata, or Kumite—best matched her abilities and potential. This personalized guidance played a vital role in her development, both as an athlete and as an individual. She deeply admires Diljeet Ma’am’s unwavering commitment to her students. Regardless of challenging weather conditions or difficult circumstances, she remains dedicated to conducting training sessions and supporting her students' growth. What inspires Narayani most is her mentor’s ability to recognize each student’s unique strengths and potential. Alongside encouraging students to build on their strengths, she patiently helps them work on their weaknesses as well. This compassionate and dedicated approach has greatly influenced Narayani, who aspires to develop the same resilience, problem-solving mindset, and commitment in her own life.

The Talent

Narayani believes that practicing Karate has significantly enhanced her confidence and helped her develop a positive outlook towards life’s challenges. According to her, Karate has taught her patience, discipline, emotional control, and the ability to think clearly under pressure. She explains that Karate is built around three fundamental components—Kihon, Kata, and Kumite. Together, these elements contribute to physical strength, emotional resilience, focus, and strategic thinking. She believes that Karate teaches individuals to remain calm and composed even in difficult situations. The lessons learned through Kumite, in particular, extend beyond competition and help individuals face real-life challenges with confidence, patience, and determination.

Achievements

Reflecting on her achievements, Narayani shares that Karate has provided her with numerous accomplishments and valuable life experiences. However, she believes that true success cannot be measured solely through medals and trophies. Every achievement, regardless of its scale, has contributed to building her confidence and shaping her personality. One of the most memorable experiences of her Karate path was participating in a tournament in Mumbai. Competing away from home pushed her beyond her comfort zone. Despite not being in the best of health at the time, she chose to face the challenge with determination and gave her best effort, making the experience both rewarding and transformative.

A Bit More

Narayani also expresses her gratitude to Prasha Ma’am, whose initiative to introduce Karate classes at Prasha's Kinderland in Indore created opportunities for many young students to learn martial arts. She credits this initiative for opening the doors to her own Karate path and helping her discover a passion that has positively shaped her life. One of Narayani’s favorite quotes is, “A black belt is a white belt who never quits.” She believes this quote perfectly captures the true essence of Karate. According to her, every belt level comes with its own challenges and tests a practitioner’s patience, discipline, stamina, emotional resilience, and determination. The path is not merely about earning belts but about continuously improving oneself. She also expresses heartfelt gratitude to her mother for constantly encouraging her to learn new things, embrace challenges, and step beyond her comfort zone. Sharing a message for aspiring Karate practitioners, Narayani encourages them to view Karate as a lifelong learning process rather than a short-term achievement. She especially motivates girls to learn Karate and self-defence, emphasizing the importance of confidence, self-discipline, and preparedness in today’s world. She believes that consistent learning, dedication, and practice help individuals develop the strength and resilience needed to overcome life’s challenges and achieve their goals.
