An upcoming dance aspirant, Kavya Chouhan is studying in fifth grade at St. Mary’s Convent Senior Secondary School in Udaipur. She is a passionate dance enthusiast with nine years of experience in Kathak, supported by her family and inspired by her guru, Renu Gorel. She has showcased her talent internationally, earning awards in Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Kavya encourages young people to follow their passions to achieve their goals.

The Initiation

Kavya Chauhan is passionate about her piano and dance classes, with a particular love for dance, especially Kathak and folk dance forms. She has been dedicated to Kathak for nine years, successfully passing written, oral, and symbolic exams along the way. Her journey began with a summer camp, and seeing her enthusiasm, her parents encouraged her further, with her mother supporting her training. Today, Kavya proudly stands at the fifth level in her Kathak studies.

Gurus & Role Models

Kavya began her dance journey at Mikado School and later continued her training at Sur Sangam Academy in Sector-4, learning under the guidance of her guru, Renu Gorel. Renu Gorel—a highly accomplished teacher with multiple accolades and degrees in dance—has been instrumental in shaping Kavya’s skills and achievements in nine years of training. Kavya considers her guru her role model, as her mentorship has inspired Kavya to reach new levels in her dance career.

The Talent

Kavya explains that dance comes in many forms, including Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Folk. In Kathak, both legs and hands are actively engaged, while Bharatanatyam relies more on expressive eyes and hand gestures. Folk dance, she adds, encompasses a range of styles across various cultures, like Terah Taali, which involves the use of Manjiras and Ghungroos. She highlights that Kathak and Bharatanatyam improve memory and body coordination, while folk dances introduce us to diverse cultures, and classical dances allow us to proudly showcase our own heritage.

Achievements

Kavya Chauhan showcased her talent internationally by securing second place in a dance competition held in Malaysia and winning first place in an event in Sri Lanka, where she performed the folk dance Terah Taali using Manjiras and Ghungroos. She has also participated in competitions in Nathdwara and Lok Kala Mandal, and has performed three times at the Lok Kala Mandal—twice with folk dances and once with Terah Taali, highlighting her dedication and versatility as a classical dancer.

A Bit More

The song “Ruk Jana Nahi Tu Kahi Haar Ke” serves as Kavya’s greatest source of motivation and inspiration. She encourages other young people to pursue their passions, believing that this dedication will empower them to progress in life and reach their goals.
