A young chess player and an MDS Senior Secondary School student, Shikhar Karn keeps on participating in various tournaments to identify his weak points and to improve his skills in the game. He aspires to participate in national-level tournaments and advises other chess aspirants to practice consistently and keep learning new winning tactics.

The Initiation

Shikhar began playing chess five years ago when his elder brother taught him the basics of the game. During COVID he started learning it from a professional.

Naming his coaches, Naman says that Chandrajeet Singh Rajawat, Naman Porwal, Gautam Kataria, and Dhruv Dak are his trainers at the Kingdom of Chess Academy. These trainers have helped him improve his game and participate in several tournaments and gain new experiences. His role model is Bobby Fischer and he is really impressed by Fischer’s attacking styles and techniques.

Achievements

Shikhar won the third prize in the Under-15 State Chess Tournament. He has participated and been in the top 10 positions in several state tournaments. He has also been a district champion.

A Bit More

Shikhar aspires to participate in the Winter Cup to be held in Udaipur, a Below sixteen tournament in Udaipur, and in a National level tournament which is to be held in Maharashtra.
